Prenatal/Maternity Care
Pregnancy is a life changing experience that is different for every person. Our Obstetricians have the highest level of specialized training in their field and have extensive experience in managing all types of pregnancy including low risk, complex and high-risk.
From your very first visit to Avivo, our team of dedicated Obstetricians and Registered Nurses will create a care plan that suits you and your baby’s medical needs. This includes clinic appointments and ultrasound schedules, any required testing or routine screening, referrals to additional health professionals for further support and your delivery plan. Their expertise includes both surgical and non-surgical delivery options. Obstetric patients of Avivo will meet with their Obstetrician in clinic for the duration of the pregnancy and deliver at the Foothills Medical Centre.
Avivo is primarily a referral-based clinic. If you are newly pregnant and wanting to become a patient a referral is required. Please have your General Practitioner (GP)/Family Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Midwife or Specialist fax the referral to our clinic at 403 289 8956.
Prenatal Lactation/Breastfeeding Care
During pregnancy, many parents begin to think about breastfeeding and what that journey will look like when the baby arrives. Breastfeeding is a choice. Breastfeeding offers many benefits for both you and your baby, but it can be daunting.
At Avivo, our General Practitioner (GP) Physicians who specialize in lactation offer both prenatal and postpartum lactation support.
Prenatal lactation appointments are typically scheduled from 28 weeks of pregnancy until delivery. However, to ensure ample time for preparation, we recommend booking these appointments before 37 weeks, in the event that the baby arrives earlier than expected. Appointments are approximately 30 minutes in length and are covered by Alberta Health Care. If you plan to feed your baby using only breast milk or a combination of breast milk and formula, there are things you can do to ensure you get off to a good start. These appointments will help you learn about breastfeeding which will help you better prepare to feed your baby.
Postpartum lactation support is available following the delivery of your baby.
Please note: If you are pregnant and interested in prenatal lactation care please call 403 289 8996.
