Avivo Health Alliance is pleased to welcome, Christie Orr-Brown, RN, MN, CCC, PMH-C to the clinic as our new Mental Health Counsellor.
Beginning her career in 2008 as a Registered Nurse where she worked in emergency, PICU, and labour and delivery, Christie discovered a passion for providing patients with mental health support. She began working in pediatric psychiatry and psychiatric emergency services at both the Children’s hospital and South Health Campus. Christie decided to pursue her Masters in Nursing with a focus on mental health and became registered as a Canadian Certified Counsellor in 2016.
Christie’s true passion is to provide peri-natal mental health supports. She has obtained her Perinatal Mental Health Certification through PostPartum Support International and works with individual patients as well as couples. Christie counsels patients who are experiencing pre-natal and postpartum anxiety, depression, OCD, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress. She also supports patients and their partners who have experienced loss or had a traumatic delivery. She has advanced training in trauma therapy and is certified to provide EMDR. Christie’s experience in acute care combined with her extensive training in mental health will be an asset to our multi disciplinary team at Avivo.
Referrals are not required for mental health counselling. These services are not covered by Alberta Health Care. Mental health services are paid for directly by the patient or patients can use third party benefits to cover their counselling costs.
